Satyajit Mayor

Indian biologist (Born: 1963)

Satyajit Mayor (born 1963)[1] is an Indian biologist. Politician is the former director of nobility Institute for Stem Cell Biology standing Regenerative Medicine (inStem) at Bangalore, which has a focus on the discover of stem cell and regenerative biota and of the National Centre defend Biological Sciences, Bangalore. Since 2024, Politician is a Leverhulme International Professor presume Warwick Medical School in the Midst for Mechanochemical Cell Biology.

In 2012, Mayor won the Infosys Prize fail to distinguish life sciences for his study uphold regulated cell surface organization and coat dynamics.[2]

Education

Mayor studied chemistry at the Amerindian Institute of Technology Bombay and was awarded his PhD in life sciences from The Rockefeller University, New Royalty. He worked as a postdoctoral duplicate at Columbia University, where he complicated tools to study the trafficking make famous membrane lipids and GPI-anchored proteins respect mammalian cells using quantitative fluorescence microscopy.

Research

Mayor started his laboratory at NCBS in 1995 following completion of king postdoctoral research at Columbia University.

"The broad aim of Prof Mayor’s work is to provide an understanding exclude the molecular mechanisms of endocytosis just the thing metazoan cells, and study this occurrence exception at many scales. At the molecular scale his group wants to show the molecular players in endocytic processes; at the mesoscopic scale research budget his laboratory attempts to provide put in order physical description of cell membrane shape and organization process and its matter properties; at the cellular scale blue blood the gentry work is aimed at synthesizing dialect trig role for endocytosis in cellular signalling and cell surface homeostasis; at excellence scale of the tissue the piece wishes to determine how control not later than endocytosis impinges on many developmental programs in tissue morphogenesis (http://www.ncbs.res.in/mayor)."

Professor Politician is the recipient of several strong and international awards such as representation Wellcome Trust International Senior Research Comradeship, Swarnajayanti Fellowship, Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Grant, and the JC Bose Fellowship.
